HBO Max is replacing by a service combined with Discovery Plus in 2023

HBO Max isn’t dead yet. But in the summer of 2023, that will happen, and a new service will replace HBO Max and Discovery Plus, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said on an earnings call today.

“HBO Max has a competitive feature set, but it had performance and customer issues,” Zaslav said. Inheritance He went on to argue that Discovery Plus has a better technology stack and will be the core of a new service that combines HBO Max content with Discovery Plus content and technology.

“I think it’s going to be a great product,” Zaslav said after assuring listeners that the company would not cause a cancellation frenzy focused on HBO Max, after a long period of user angst. Earlier in the week, the company decided to remove the nearly complete Batgirl from its release calendar and move it to The Vault. I can do this. Then the Wrap reported that things were about to get worse for HBO Max and the creative development team working there.

Zaslav tried to allay those fears during the call, insisting that HBO Max’s programming is generally excellent and supported by the entire company. During the Q&A call, Zaslav said that HBO Max is becoming a brand in itself, especially when it comes to quality. It’s not yet known what Warner Bros. Discovery will call this new integrated service, but we’re sure to hear more about it as Zaslav further shakes up his new company next year.
